🌿 Wuyuan: An Ink-Wash Village Cherished by Time
🏡 Past and Present Within White Walls and Black Tiles
Walking along Huangling's Water Street feels like stepping into Jiangnan during the Ming and Qing dynasties. This 400-meter-long ancient flagstone street is flanked by well-preserved Huizhou-style architecture, where horse-head walls with upturned eaves loom through morning mist. It's said that when Zhu Xi returned to lecture in his hometown, his footsteps once graced these very bluestone slabs.
🌼 Earth Art on Terraced Fields
Strolling along the flower trail, the layered rapeseed fields resemble an overturned palette. Local farmers shared that these terraces, dating back 800 years, embody the wisdom of Huizhou ancestors who "divided the land into eight parts mountains and one part fields." Every March and April, the golden sea of flowers contrasts beautifully with white walls and black tiles, creating a three-dimensional landscape painting.
☀️ The Lively Charm of Sun-Drying Families
From the Sun-Drying Village viewpoint, watch villagers drying chilies, corn, and chrysanthemums on bamboo trays, their vibrant colors dancing in sunlight. This Ming Dynasty-originated tradition has evolved into a unique "sun-drying culture." Come at dawn when slanting sunlight makes the colors most vivid.
🎋 Slow Living on Water Street
Don't miss the traditional oil-paper umbrella workshop, where artisans repeatedly coat umbrellas with tung oil. Next door, the aroma of rice wine invites you to sample osmanthus-infused brews. At dusk, as lanterns gradually light up, their reflections on bluestone evoke Dai Wangshu's poem "Rainy Alley."
Every frame here resembles a living ancient painting, with even the air carrying faint ink fragrance. As local elders say: "In Wuyuan, days are measured by sun-drying bamboo trays."
