Hainan Provincial Museum of Ethnology covers an area of ​​50,025 square meters, with a construction area of ​​4,557 square meters and an exhibition area of ​​2,200 square meters. It is a local comprehensive museum. On October 1, 1986, the Ethnographic Museum of Hainan Li and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Guangdong Province was completed and officially opened to the public. In April 1988, after Hainan was established as a province, it was upgraded and renamed the Hainan Provincial Ethnographic Museum. The Hainan Provincial Museum of Ethnology mainly displays history, folk customs, arts and crafts, and religious cultural relics. It mainly displays Zhulu Zhigui, frog gongs, Yazhou dragon quilts, bone charms, etc. As of the end of 2019, the Hainan Provincial Museum of Ethnology has a collection of 9,057 pieces/set, including 726 pieces/set of precious cultural relics.

In 1994, the Hainan Provincial Museum of Ethnology was awarded the title of "National Outstanding County-level Museum" by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. On April 2, 1997, the Hainan Provincial Museum of Ethnology was designated as the Hainan Provincial Patriotism Education Base by Hainan Province. On October 26, 2020, the Hainan Provincial Museum of Ethnology was approved by the Hainan Provincial Tourism Resources Planning and Development Quality Assessment Committee as a national 3A-level tourist attraction. The visit lasts about one and a half hours.
