Labrang Monastery (Gansu)

Labrang Monastery is one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries outside of Tibet and a spiritual heartland for Tibetan culture in Gansu. Nestled in the town of Xiahe, the monastery is home to thousands of monks and an impressive collection of scriptures, golden statues, and thangka paintings. The kora (pilgrimage path) around the monastery is lined with spinning prayer wheels. Visiting during a festival, like the Monlam Prayer Festival, is an unforgettable cultural immersion.
