Gulags Xiamen China

Gulangyu Island is located at the southwest corner of Xiamen Island, facing Xiamen across the sea, with only a 600-meter wide Lujiang River separating it from Xiamen Island. It takes a ferry about 4.5 minutes to reach the island. (Now, it takes about 40 minutes to circumnavigate the island.) With an area of 1.87 square kilometers and a population of over 20,000, it is currently under the jurisdiction of Siming District. The climate on the island is pleasant, resembling spring all year round. There are no noisy vehicles, only the chirping of birds and the fragrance of flowers, earning it the reputation of being a "Garden on the Sea."
