Tourists and locals board ferries at different docks. Tourists need to buy tickets in advance, but if you have a local social security card, you can just buy and go. The round trip costs 8 yuan, deducted from the social security card.

✔️About departure and arrival docks
There are 3 docks to Gulangyu in total. Most tourists take the ferry from the Xiamen-Gulangyu Ferry Terminal. I have taken the ferry to the island three times, but the island is small enough to explore in one day, so start early because it’s impossible to see everything if you start too late.
🥢About dining
The overall price level on Gulangyu is relatively high, especially if you want to eat seafood. It’s recommended to eat directly on the island for better value. You can take the ferry back from Gulangyu to the first dock, then take a few bus stops to Shapowei. At the corner of Daxue Road, there’s a favorite spot called Strawberry Couple!!! The lobster mixed noodles 🍜 are very tasty.
