[Siguniang Mountain | The Alps of the East]
Siguniang Mountain is located at the junction of Xiaojin County and Wenchuan County in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Known as the "Queen of the Shu Mountains," it comprises four contiguous snow-capped peaks. The highest peak, Yaomei Peak, stands at 6,250 meters above sea level. Covered with snow year-round, it is shrouded in mist and clouds, creating a majestic aura.
🏔 The Legend of the Four Snow Peaks
Siguniang Mountain's name derives from a Tibetan legend about four kind and beautiful maidens who transformed into snow-capped mountains to protect this land. The four peaks, arranged from lowest to highest, resemble sisters:
• Dafeng (5,355 meters): Suitable for beginner climbers.
• Erfeng (5,454 meters): Moderately difficult.
• Sanfeng (5,664 meters): More challenging.
• Yaomei Peak (6,250 meters): Recognized by the Chinese mountaineering community as a highly technical snow-capped peak.
🌲 Natural Landscapes
• Shuangqiaogou: Glaciers, snow-capped mountains, and primeval forests intertwine in a picturesque setting.
• Changpinggou: Streams crisscross the valley, pastures and meadows offer the perfect backdrop for experiencing the fusion of Tibetan and Qiang culture and nature.
• Haizigou: Glacial lakes dot the valley, perfect for hiking and camping.
✨ Travel Atmosphere
Alpine azaleas bloom in spring, lush green grass in summer, fiery red leaves in autumn, and a blanket of white snow in winter—Mt. Siguniang offers a unique beauty year-round. Suitable for both serious climbers and casual hikers, Siguniang Mountain offers a tranquil and magnificent plateau.
📌 Tips
• Transportation: Approximately 4-5 hours by car from Chengdu.
• Best Season: Autumn (September–October) is the best time to view the crimson foliage and snow-capped mountains.
• Precautions: At high altitude, wear sunscreen and cold protection, and take precautions against altitude sickness.
