Popular yet authentic historic town

Xitang is a famous historic water town in Zhejiang Province. It's famous for its historic streets which snake around the waterways and as such also include various stone bridges that cross its many canals.
The town is quite popular and a tip to keep in mind is to try to get there early or in the late afternoon, as it will be noticeably quieter. By then you'll feel the town in a more serene and magical way, adding to its charm. In late afternoon the lighting is also especially nice, allowing you to take some beautiful pictures.
Although a tourist attraction now, the town is nicely preserved and seems to have kept some of its olden charm. Some residents still seem to live in the area, so you can still see how some of its residents live. Take a stroll outside its main streets, which are bustling with tourists and you'll see a quieter and slower side of the town, which truly brings out the magic and allure of this quaint little town!
Overall, well worth the visit if you're into quaint historic water towns that although are touristy, they still are authentic.
