Southern Anhui's Secret: Poetic Villages on a Cycling Loop

In the spring of southern Anhui, there is a kind of beauty called "unhurried." It doesn't have the fame of Hongcun and Xidi, but it hides countless stunning niche villages. This time, I explored along the officially recommended "Wanmei Landscape Cycling Race Loop," a total of 84 km, three round trips, experiencing sunny, rainy, and snowy days, and each scenery was intoxicating.
First stop: Fengwu Village – Colorful S-shaped Bicycle Lane and Puman Farm
Starting from the city, Fengwu Village is the first surprise on this loop. The village is clean and tidy, with a colorful S-shaped bicycle lane winding through it, as if tailor-made for cycling enthusiasts. Even more noteworthy is the Puman Farm in the village, which integrates eating, living, and playing, and is said to be very popular among Shanghai travelers. Whether you want to taste authentic farmhouse dishes or stay in a pastoral B&B, this place can satisfy all your fantasies about rural life.
Second stop: Mountain Wild Coffee – A Paradise for Outdoor Enthusiasts
Continuing on, at a 180-degree sharp turn, you will find a wooden cabin coffee shop that is not yet open – Mountain Wild Coffee. Although it has not yet officially opened, its unique tone has already attracted a lot of attention. The small reservoir opposite reflects the blue sky and white clouds, and the small villas on the opposite bank are even more unique, with tatami mats on the second floor and complete water and electricity facilities, suitable for friends who like to cook their own meals. One day in the future, you may wish to stay here for a night and enjoy the pure embrace of nature.
Third stop: Hongtan Village – A Picture of Peach Blossoms and Rapeseed Flowers
After leaving Fengwu Village, after a section of uphill road, you will come to Hongtan Village. Overlooking the entire village from the viewing platform at the P3 location, large swaths of peach blossoms and rapeseed flowers are intertwined into a stunning spring picture. Standing at a high place, the breeze caresses your face, and your heart becomes soft.
Fourth stop: Meixi Village – The Ceiling of Rapeseed Flowers
If Hongtan Village is the main venue for peach blossoms, then Meixi Village is the world of rapeseed flowers. The sea of rapeseed flowers here is known as the "ceiling," covering the valley like a golden carpet, like a fairyland on earth. Being in it, it seems that even time becomes slow and gentle.
Fifth stop: Daguling – High Mountain Tea Garden and Primitive Village
Deep into the hinterland of the loop, Daguling awaits those travelers who love challenges. The winding mountain bike path is quite difficult, and the end is a primitive village hidden at the source of the Grand Canyon. In spring, the high mountain tea garden on the top of the mountain encounters a sky of snow, forming a rare winter-summer interlaced picture. For photography enthusiasts, this is a must-see check-in point.
Hidden Easter Egg: Q Suspension Bridge and Starry Sky
There is also a place called Q Suspension Bridge along the way (the specific location is blurred), and the wind can even blow away a straw hat, but this does not prevent it from becoming a popular wallpaper in Moments. And at night, choose a small mountain village and look up, and the sky is full of stars within reach. Just set up the camera in the yard, and the next day you can harvest stunning star trail photos. Imagine how shocking it would be to see the Milky Way in the summer sky!
Travel Tips
• Driving difficulty: The driving difficulty of this loop is no less than that of the Southern Anhui-Sichuan-Tibet Line, especially in the Daguling section, where the mountain roads are rugged, so it is recommended to drive with caution.
• Accommodation recommendation: In addition to the mountain villages deep in Daguling, there are relatively complete commercial facilities in other places, and you can choose to stay in a characteristic B&B like Puman Farm.
• Seasonal selection: Whether it is sunny, rainy, or snowy, each season has its own unique beauty, but spring is undoubtedly the best viewing period.
