Seeing the Autumn Foliage — Shotenzan Kinryu Zenin (Yokohama)
"Enveloped in the Silence of Autumn — A Stroll through the Autumn Foliage at Shotenzan Kinryu Zenin"
Located at the foot of a mountain in Yokohama's Kanazawa Ward, Shotenzan Kinryu Zenin is a tranquil temple said to have been founded during the Eitoku era (1381–1384). It belongs to the Kenchoji branch of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism and was founded by Hogai Genkei. Locals love the temple's name, derived from the legend that "a dragon ascended from within an inkstone."
In autumn, the temple grounds are bathed in subtle reds and yellows, creating a charm that is difficult to describe. In particular, the view of the Kanazawa Hakkei landscape amid the autumn foliage can be seen from Kyurantei, a small hill behind the main hall. The view is exceptional.
It is easily accessible, approximately an 8-minute walk from Kanazawa-Hakkei Station on the Keikyu Line. Recommended for those who want to avoid the crowds and enjoy the autumn leaves at their own pace.
