Zanpa Cape
1861 Uza, Yomitan Village, Nakagami District, Okinawa Prefecture
Located at the westernmost point of Okinawa's main island, Zanpa Cape is renowned for its stunning 2-kilometer stretch of coral reef cliffs, which rise up to 30 meters. The natural cliffs, combined with the azure sea and sky, create a breathtaking view. The white lighthouse here is a landmark structure, standing 31 meters tall. Visitors can climb to the top for panoramic views of the vast ocean, including the Kerama Islands.
Zanpa Cape is also a prime spot for witnessing the "last sinking of the sunset" on Okinawa's main island. During sunset, the orange-red sky and the silhouette of the lighthouse form a spectacular scene, attracting numerous photography enthusiasts. Nearby, the "Zanpa Cape Park" features historical statues of Ryukyu Kingdom figures like "Taiki," a small local shrine, and a 7-meter-tall "Zanpa Lion" stone statue symbolizing protection and blessings.
Visitors should note that Zanpa Cape experiences strong winds, so it's advisable to bring warm clothing in winter and sun hats and sufficient water in summer. The nearby "Zanpa Beach" offers water activities and BBQ facilities, making it ideal for family outings.
