When I reached Hunan, I discovered a peaceful and charming little city—Yongzhou. There are hardly any tourists here, yet it’s home to Lingling Ancient City, famously described by Liu Zongyuan in “Eight Records of Yongzhou”, and even the legendary traveler Xu Xiake wrote about it.
Today’s “Eight Scenic Spots of Yongzhou” are each uniquely beautiful, and most of them are free to visit!
If you’re planning to travel during a holiday and want to avoid the crowds, Yongzhou is definitely worth a visit!
🗺 Yongzhou 3 Days, 2 Nights Itinerary:
Day 1: Wenmiao Temple → Wumiao Temple → Xiake Ferry → Liuzi Street → Xiaoshitan Pool → Lingling Ancient City
Day 2: Pingzhou Academy → Hui Tower → Xiangling Mountain
Day 3: Shanggantang Village → Goulan Yao Village
🌟 Must-Visit Spots:
Pingzhou Academy
A unique riverside ancient academy where the Xiao and Xiang rivers meet. It’s the top of the “Eight Scenic Spots.” Boating here is also a beautiful experience.
Xiaoshitan Pool
The real-life setting of Liu Zongyuan’s “Record of the Little Stone Pool”. The water is emerald green—very quiet and calming.
Xiake Ferry
Xu Xiake passed through this ferry on his southern journey. It now has a floating bridge for visitors—quite special!
Liuzi Street
An ancient street filled with old charm. The Liuzi Temple dedicated to Liu Zongyuan is also located here.
