Yudu Long March Source

The Long March Source is the starting point of the Long March of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, located in Yudu County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. In October 1934, 86,000 soldiers of the Central Red Army gathered here and, after a short rest, crossed the Yudu River from eight ferry crossings to embark on the 25,000-mile Long March. Yudu is not only the starting point of the Long March, but also carries rich red culture and historical significance. On the banks of the Yudu River, there are important memorial sites such as the Central Red Army Long March Departure Memorial Park, the Central Red Army Long March Departure Memorial Hall, and the Long March Square, which have become important places for people to remember the revolutionary history. Yudu was also the last base of the Central Soviet Area after the main force of the Red Army left for the Long March. After the main force of the Red Army left the Central Soviet Area, the Central Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the Office of the Central Government of the Soviet Area, and the Central Military Region were established in the Central Soviet Area. Xiang Ying was appointed as the Secretary of the Central Bureau and the Commander of the Central Military Region, and Chen Yi was appointed as the Director of the Central Government Office. In late October 1934, the Central Bureau moved from Ruijin to Longquan and Shihan in Kuantian, Yudu, and in late December to Jingtang in Huanglin, and in February 1935 to Shangping in Licun, until the breakout. Under the leadership of the Central Bureau of the Soviet Area, the military and civilians of Yudu fought guerrilla warfare with the enemy and held on to the last base of the Central Soviet Area.
