Hunan's Yueyang Tower, a renowned Jiangnan tower that has witnessed a millennium of civic grandeur. 🏛️
Fan Zhongyan of the Northern Song Dynasty, with his verse "Before the world worries, I worry about my own; after the world rejoices, I rejoice in its own happiness," elevated this tower beyond mere scenery to a spiritual totem for Chinese scholars. Climbing the tower and gazing out from the horizon, one feels as if in a conversation with Du Fu's "Wu and Chu split to the southeast, the universe shifts day and night," a thousand years in a flash.
Standing atop the three-story eaves, one can gaze down upon the vast expanse of Dongting Lake, China's second-largest freshwater lake. In spring, the waters are as turquoise as the sky; in autumn, the colors stretch across the vast expanse. In misty rain, Junshan Island, like a green snail on a silver plate, looms, creating a poetic and picturesque scene. 📚
