Exploring Yufu in Kyushu is a certified mood if you love laidback small-town vibes, nature, and epic Japanese desserts 🍓🌧️ The lush scenery around Yufuin Area is ridiculously beautiful, especially with the misty rain wrapping the mountains and streams. Honestly, it’s one of those spots that feels way more chill than anywhere else in Japan!
Must-See Places in Yufu:
1. Kinrin Lake — 1561-1 Yufuincho Kawakami, Yufu, Oita 879-5102
Open all day, all year. This is the heart of Yufuin, surrounded by cozy cafes and lots of greenery. Spring rain creates a mist that makes the whole view extra dreamy. There’s a cute park nearby and it’s the perfect spot to just wander or people-watch as everyone strolls around.
2. Yufuin Area — Yufuincho, Yufu City, Oita
Pretty much the whole town is explorable on foot. Public transport exists, but walk if you can—locals do, and you’ll get way more out of the landscape (plus, all those dessert shops aren’t far from each other).
3. Yufuin Floral Village — 1503-3 Yufuincho Kawakami, Yufu
Open 09:30-17:30. It’s a quaint little themed shopping street with shops dressed up like tiny cottages, perfect for Instagram and for sampling MORE sweets.
4. Yufuin Milch — 3015-1 Yufuincho Kawakami
Don’t skip this spot!
Foodie Tip: Come spring, munch every strawberry treat you find (and get them fresh too). Sweets here are next-level. Especially the mochi with fresh strawberries. Try the white strawberries in season—they’re way cheaper here than most places.
How to Get Around:
Walk! Yufuin’s main attractions are super close and the vibe is best enjoyed on foot.
Yufu Essentials:
No special visa for short trip, bring cash (small shops don’t always take cards), and layer up if it’s rainy! Spring gets lush but chilly.
