Embark on a spontaneous adventure to explore the secrets of Yuxi and Yimen! Not only does this area offer authentic wild mushroom culture, but it also lets you experience the unique charm of a small town in central Yunnan. Today, we'll show you this perfect weekend getaway!
🏨Recommended accommodation: Yaster Hotel
Located at 109 Shanhu Road in the heart of Yuxi City, right downstairs is the incredibly popular Nie Er Music Square Taobao Street Night Market! It's incredibly convenient for shopping and dining, and the hotel is strategically located away from the main road, so you don't have to worry about noise. The most surprising thing is their breakfast menu featuring a wide variety of Yunnan specialties, which even the locals rave about! The bathroom water pressure is also excellent, making it a perfect balm for a weary journey.
🍄Must-see attraction: Yimen Wild Mushroom Museum
Located on Nantunhu North Road in Yimen County, this treasure museum is a mushroom enthusiast's paradise! You can see hundreds of wild mushroom specimens and learn a ton about mushroom harvesting and lightning protection. Remember to book a tour guide; they'll tell you all the fun stories of Yunnan people picking mushrooms—it'll definitely make you laugh out loud!
🌆Yuxi Night Market Food Guide:
1. Must-try the Jianshui grilled tofu—crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, paired with the special dipping sauce, it's divine.
2. The delicious combination of papaya water and ice jelly is a spicier alternative to spicy and greasy food.
3. For just ten yuan, you can grab a large bag of fried potato chips—a must-have snack for binge-watching TV series.
4. Various wild mushroom barbecue stalls are a great late-night snack, but choose ones with good hygiene.
💡Helpful Tips:
- Admission to the Yimen Wild Mushroom Museum is free, but be aware it closes at 5 PM.
- The drive from downtown Yuxi to Yimen takes about 1.5 hours, and the scenery along the way is breathtaking.
- For mushroom picking, we recommend visiting during the rainy season from July to September, and be sure to find a professional guide.
- For dried wild mushrooms, look no further than the farmers' market in Yimen County; prices are half the price of those in the scenic area.
