A Magical Evening with Tianmen Fox Fairy & 72 Qi Lou (Wonderful Buildings)

My trip to Zhangjiajie wasn’t just about the mountains and the scenery — it was also about stepping into stories, legends, and the heartbeat of local culture. That night, I had the chance to watch the Tianmen Fox Fairy live show and later wander through the 72 Qi Lou. it turned out to be one of the most memorable evenings of my journey.

As the sun went down, I arrived at the outdoor theater at the foot of Tianmen Mountain. The air was cool, and the mountain loomed quietly in the background like a guardian. The stage blended perfectly with nature — no heavy curtains or walls, just open sky, forest, and the echo of distant crickets.

When the show began, the entire valley seemed to come alive. The story of the fox fairy and the young man unfolded through dance, music, and colorful lights, mixing folklore with a touch of magic. At times, the performers seemed to float against the mountain backdrop, their voices rising into the night air. I found myself smiling, touched by the romance and the dreamlike atmosphere.

It wasn’t just a performance — it felt like a conversation between legends and the land itself.

After the show, I made my way to 72 Qi Lou, a cluster of wooden stilt houses and lively streets filled with shops, bars, and glowing lanterns. The contrast was wonderful: from the calm romance of the stage to the bustling, cheerful energy of the town.

I wandered slowly, letting the rhythm of music and chatter guide me. Street food stalls offered spicy skewers and sweet rice cakes, the smoky aroma mixing with the night breeze. Little shops sold handicrafts, each with its own story.

Walking among the old wooden architecture, lit warmly from within, I felt like I had stepped back into another time — yet the laughter and music reminded me it was very much alive.

By the time I sat down with a drink, watching people dance and chat under the lantern light, I felt completely at ease. The day had given me both beauty and joy — the romance of legends at Tianmen Fox Fairy, and the liveliness of culture at 72 Qi Lou.
