Traveling from Zigong, Sichuan to Dali, Yunnan, I chose Zhaotong as a transit stop. This "Autumn City" nestled against the Wumeng Mountains is, in my stereotypical impression, especially famous for its apples. Zhaotong apples are incredibly sweet, and the people of Zhaotong are equally wonderful. Upon arriving, I immediately felt the grandeur of the "mighty Wumeng." The cost of living in Zhaotong is super affordable, proving that small towns indeed offer more romance and happiness.
Before arriving, I didn’t do much travel research on Zhaotong, planning to just spend a couple of casual days there. If you’re passing through, don’t miss the beauty of Zhaotong—consider staying a few days to soak in the city’s charm. Here’s my recommended itinerary:
Route 🍃🍃🍃
Day1️⃣ Zhaotong Museum ➡️ Shenggeng Cultural Park ➡️ Zhaotong Ancient Town
Day2️⃣ Fenghuang Mountain Forest Park ➡️ Wumeng Water Town Park ➡️ Luo Binghui Cultural Square ➡️ Wanghai Park
Do whatever makes you happy—the key is to enjoy yourself and experience the unique romance of a small town.
Stay 🏠: Sijing Light Luxury Hotel near Zhaotong Jinhai Building Materials Market. The environment is clean and comfortable, featuring a rooftop garden. Prices are reasonable, around 60-70 RMB per person.
Eat 🍵: Don’t miss Zhaotong apples.
Eat 🌽: Chongqing Sanhuo Street Hotpot in Shenggeng Shanshui—fresh ingredients and authentic flavors.
There’s a huge supermarket in Wuyue Plaza with incredibly cheap snacks and fruits. Be sure to try the beef jerky—it’s delicious!
