Many people think that Zhuhai is only about eating and drinking, but in fact there are some good places to go. Today we are going to Zhuhai's "Yuanming New Garden"
The New Yuanming Garden is a theme park at the foot of Shilin Mountain in Zhuhai, China, located in Lanpu, Jiuzhou Avenue. The New Yuanming Garden was built in a one-to-one ratio based on some of the scenes of China's famous Old Summer Palace. It is now one of the ten scenic spots in Zhuhai. Although the New Yuanming Garden is based on the royal gardens of the Qing Dynasty, it is not an exhibition hall of the Old Summer Palace. In terms of content, it has the characteristics of a theme park, integrating Chinese culture, Western culture, history, tourism, commerce and food.
The original site of Beijing's Old Summer Palace was the hometown of the royal family of the Ming Dynasty, and later became the imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty. The construction of the Old Summer Palace began during the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1709), and it was later given to the fourth prince Yinzhen and named "Old Summer Palace". The Old Summer Palace was expanded or renovated during the reigns of Emperors Yongzheng, Jiaqing, Daoguang and Xianfeng, becoming a rare garden in the world at that time. It was also praised by Western countries as the "Garden of Gardens" and the "Versailles of the East". Unfortunately, during the Second Opium War (1860), it was invaded and looted by the British and French forces; on October 18, 1860, the Old Summer Palace was burned down, and only the ruins remain. Although subsequent generations of Qing emperors wanted to rebuild the Old Summer Palace, they gave up halfway due to internal and external troubles and insufficient national strength.
The New Yuanming Garden was rebuilt by replicating 18 architectural styles among the 40 scenic spots in the Old Summer Palace in Beijing. After four years of construction and a cost of 600 million yuan, it was officially opened on February 2, 1997.
The New Yuanming Garden is modeled after the Old Summer Palace in Beijing before it was burned down. The buildings are mainly divided into three categories: Chinese classical garden architecture of the Ming and Qing dynasties, Jiangnan gardens, and classical Western architecture.
Chinese classical garden architecture from the Ming and Qing dynasties and Jiangnan garden designs are distributed along the central axis of the park and along the shores of Fuhai Lake. The main scenic spots include: Zhengda Guangming, Jiuzhou Qingyan, Pengdao Yaotai and Fanghu Holy Land. The scenic spots around the lake are: Autumn Moon over Pinghu Lake, Stone Boat, Lianxi Music Place, Hanxu Langjian, Upper and Lower Tianguang, Windy Courtyard Lotus, Wanfang Anhe, etc. Classical Western-style buildings are concentrated on the west side of the garden, and the scenic spots include Yuanying Temple, Haiyan Hall, Dashuifa and other classical buildings.
Yuanmingyuan has tour guides in the scenic area to help visitors understand China's modern history, the culture of the Qing Dynasty and the emperor's court life. The most famous large-scale performances in Yuanmingyuan are "The Qing Dynasty" and "The Qing Naval Battle", and the content of the performances changes regularly. In addition to large-scale performances, every Chinese ancient architecture scenic spot has performances and entertainment for the audience to participate in, such as: Hearing Government, Qing Palace Celebrations, Chime Bells and Dance, Qianlong's Tour of Fuhai, and The Legend of the Fragrant Concubine.
