The pass connects the Swiss town of Brig with Domodossola in Italy. A modern road, open year-round, offers a scenic drive across the pass.
The Simplon Eagle: A large granite eagle monument, standing 9 meters tall, is located on the pass. It was erected in 1944 to honor the Swiss soldiers who stood guard on the Simplon during World War II.
Augustinian hospice: A monastery and hospice, first documented in 1235 and now managed by Augustinian monks, is located at the top of the pass. It continues a long tradition of providing shelter for travelers.
