Introducing Zhangzhou Babao Inkstone Factory

Zhangzhou Babao inkstone is a traditional Han Chinese handicraft from Zhangzhou, Fujian. In ancient times, it was considered a tribute. A beloved treasure among Chinese and foreign calligraphers and painters, it is one of the renowned "Three Treasures of Zhangzhou" and known as the "Five Treasures of the Study." It serves as both a stationery item and a fine souvenir. Currently, six grades are available: Special Tribute, First Tribute, Tribute, Supreme, Rare, and Top Grade. The packaging is available in three types of decorative boxes: camphorwood, cast-on, and leather-grained.

Zhangzhou Babao Ink Ink boasts a history of over 300 years. Its founder, Wei Chang'an, formerly ran the Yuanfeng Pharmacy. He created Babao ointment, but due to its high cost, it was rarely sought after. Wei, a keen calligrapher and painter, happened to use it on a bell seal and saw a remarkably vibrant, effective seal. Based on the ointment, he developed the Babao Ink Ink. The then-prefect of Chengzhangcheng, after using Wei Chang'an's ink, was so impressed by its exceptional quality that he sent it to the capital as a tribute. Emperor Qianlong, Aisin-Gioro Hongli, bestowed it upon his close ministers and dispatched officials to Zhangzhou to collect it for exclusive use by the imperial court.
