Quanzhou Normal University (QNU) is located in Quanzhou, one of China's first historical and cultural cities and a renowned hometown of overseas Chinese. Founded in 1958, it formerly served as the Teachers College of Quanzhou University. As of May 2017, the university boasts two campuses, the Donghai and Shishan campuses, covering 1,185 mu (approximately 1,000 acres). It also has a 105-mu (approximately 1,000 acres) Software College (Jiangnan Campus), a joint venture between the university and enterprises. The university comprises 18 secondary colleges and offers 63 full-time undergraduate programs across nine disciplines: economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, management, and art. Seven of the university's programs are designated provincial key disciplines.
On October 18, 1999, and again on April 20, 2001, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People's Republic of China, and then Governor of Fujian Province, visited Quanzhou Normal University and guided the establishment of the university and the construction of the new Donghai campus. Quanzhou residents from all walks of life and local and international figures donated over 100 million yuan to support the university's development, and over 20 teaching buildings, laboratory buildings, and apartment buildings have been named after donors.
