Linyin Stone Forest is a national key scenic spot located in Dahu Town, 13 kilometers northwest of Yong'an City, Fujian Province. Construction began during the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty. The name "Linyin" comes from the fish-scale-like surface of the rocks, inspired by the saying "Heaven therefore conceals its traces." It comprises four scenic stone forests: Linyin, Shidong Cold Spring, Hongyun Mountain, and Shouchun Rock. Covering a total area of 1.21 square kilometers, it features attractions such as Linyin Stone Forest, Hongyun Mountain Stone Forest, and Eighteen Caves.
This is a typical karst landform, home to numerous unusual rocks, peaks, and caves. Linyin Stone Forest is unique: a stone forest above ground and a subterranean labyrinth. Blessed with natural beauty and awe-inspiring craftsmanship, it is unique in East China and second highest in China. Within the scenic area, over 400 stone buds, cones, pillars, and stalagmites rise, the highest reaching 36 meters. The rocks are anthropomorphic and offer a variety of shapes and forms. Scenic spots include Sanding Rock, Stargazing, Bajie Looking in the Mirror, Junction Peak, Stone Monkey Embracing a Peach, Black Bear Protecting Bamboo Shoots, Stone Turtle Exploring a Cave, Kissing Rock, and Linyin Academy, among over 50 others.
People generally only know of the Stone Forest in Yunnan Province, but are unaware that Yong'an City in Fujian Province also boasts a national key scenic spot, one of China's four great stone forests. The unique karst topography creates a unique landscape of above-ground stone forests and underground labyrinths. Developed in Carboniferous-Permian limestone, the stone forest reaches heights of up to 36 meters, while the lowest are 2-3 meters. Its forms vary, ranging from isolated columns, towers, and cones to clusters and pen holders nestled on a common base. Some have flat tops, others have pointed tops. Some are smooth columns crowned by densely jagged karst grooves and stone buds. Some limestone is exposed, while others are shrouded in a veil of vines, creating a breathtaking and beautiful sight.
The subtropical monsoon climate is suitable for all seasons.
