Introducing the Beamless Hall

Located in Linggu Park on the southern slope of Purple Mountain in Nanjing, the Wuliang Hall is the only remaining Ming Dynasty building at Linggu Temple, boasting a history of over 600 years. Originally enshrined in the hall was the Buddha of Infinite Life, hence its name.

Because the building is a brick and stone arch structure, devoid of any timber, it is commonly known as the Beamless Hall. This lack of beams allowed it to survive the war, making it the oldest and largest of China's five remaining beamless halls. The Beamless Hall measures 50 meters from east to west and 34 meters from north to south . Its roof features a double-eaved, nine-ridged rooftop covered in gray-black tubular tiles, and three Lamaist pagodas stand atop the main ridge.
