Located within the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum in Nanjing, Sifangcheng, also known as the " Divine Merit and Sacred Virtue Monument Tower , " was built in 1413 AD . Its square plan, with its roof now destroyed, is commonly known as Sifangcheng. It faces Dajinmen on either side of Lingyuan Road.
The surrounding walls are like fortresses. Inside the city, a large stone beast stands, its head held high and its tail dragging, seemingly lifelike. On its back, it carries the "Stele of Divine Merits and Sacred Virtues of the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum." The stele, in regular script, contains 2,746 characters, each as large as a fist, detailing the lifelong merits and virtues of the Ming Taizu. It was erected by Ming Chengzu Zhu Di for his father, Zhu Yuanzhang, in the third year of the Yongle reign ( 1405 AD).
