The Nanjing Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall, located on Xingzhi Road in Xiaozhuang, outside Zhongyangmen, Nanjing, occupies the former site of Chongyi School. It features the Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall, Tao Xingzhi's Tomb, and the Xiaozhuang Martyrs' Monument. The memorial hall is the first of its kind in China. Nanjing Xiaozhuang Normal School, the birthplace of Tao's pioneering life-oriented education movement, is also the site of his burial. His mother, sister Wenmi, and Madam Chunyi are also buried there. The memorial hall has become a patriotic education center in Nanjing and a hub for the study and research of Tao Xingzhi by the China Tao Xingzhi Research Association. His motto, "Come with a heart, leave without a blade of grass," radiates the spirit of fraternity and dedication, inspiring generations of educators.
The memorial hall was originally established in 1951 when Xiaozhuang Normal School reopened. Due to its small size, it only displays a few dozen photos and some artifacts. However, it was the only Tao Xingzhi memorial hall in China at the time. Tao Xingzhi's relatives deposited five boxes of personal belongings and nearly a thousand photos in the hall. These items survived the decade of turmoil thanks to careful storage.
On March 15, 1980, the museum was renovated and opened to the public. It displays over 120 photographs and over 100 pieces of his writings and personal belongings. In 1985, with the support of provincial and municipal leaders, the Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall was rebuilt. The new two-story building covers 150 square meters and has a floor area of 500 square meters. The main building is rectangular, with cream-colored exterior walls and dark green iron windows, creating a solemn and awe-inspiring appearance. The six large bronze characters "Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall" above the entrance hall were personally inscribed by Comrade Lu Dingyi.
With a subtropical monsoon climate, "come with a heart and leave without a blade of grass," you can gain a deeper understanding of Mr. Tao Xingzhi's contributions to my country's education. All seasons are suitable for travel.
Enter the Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall and trace the life of Mr. Tao Xingzhi by viewing more than 120 precious photos and more than 100 posthumous works and relics on display, and appreciate his educational philosophy and personal charm.
It is recommended to play for about 2 hours.
