Xu Garden is located in the Presidential Palace at No. 292 Changjiang Road, Xuanwu District, Nanjing. It is also known as the West Garden and is symmetrical with the East Garden (Fu Garden). It is now connected to the ruins of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom's Heavenly King's Palace and the Nanjing Presidential Palace. Xu Garden is one of the better-preserved Jiangnan gardens of the late Qing Dynasty and a typical representative of Jiangnan gardens.
Xuyuan Garden is renowned for its small size, encompassing only 1.4 hectares. Its vibrant, interplay of void and reality creates a distinct layered landscape. The garden's primary focus is water, flowing north and south. The pond, with a circumference of approximately 1,866 meters, occupies more than half the garden's surface. The East and West Pavilions face each other across the bank, while the South and North Pavilions echo each other in the distance. Pavilions nestle among the flowers, and pavilions stand at the water's edge, creating a natural and harmonious landscape. The pond resembles a long-necked vase, with Yilan Pavilion towering over its mouth. Lush flowers and trees create a tranquil and elegant scene.
The main scenic spots include Taiping Lake, the Stone Boat (without mooring the boat), Yilan Pavilion, Wangfei Pavilion, Yuanyang Pavilion, Flower Hall, Tongyin Pavilion, Xijia Tower, East Waterside Pavilion, the Office of the Provisional President, Sun Yat-sen's Bedroom, the remains of the Warm Pavilion, Yinxin Stone House, and the Poetry Stele.
