The Zhenjiang Museum was founded in 1958, and its current building was completed in 1890, covering over 70 mu (approximately 166 acres). Nestled at the foot of Yuntai Mountain to the west, bordered by the mighty Yangtze River to the north, and bordered by Xijindu Ancient Street to the east, it was one of the earliest British consulates built along the Chinese coast and river. Comprising five buildings, the building is designed in the East Indian style. Nestled between the mountains and the river, its architectural style remains undiminished despite centuries of weathering. This modern architectural relic, of significant historical, scientific, and artistic value, is exceptionally unique in its style and well-preserved condition, earning it a designation as a National Key Protected Site by the State Council on November 26, 1996.

The Zhenjiang Museum, a comprehensive local history and art museum, was founded in 1958. Housed on the site of the former British Consulate, it occupies 11,700 square meters. Five East Indian-style buildings are strategically arranged along the hillside. A 1,780-square-meter cultural relic storage facility was completed in 1995, bringing the museum's floor area to 5,456 square meters. In 1996, the museum was designated a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the State Council. This art museum houses over 30,000 artifacts dating from the Stone Age to the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as 100,000 ancient books. Among these are one National Treasure, over 70 first-class national cultural relics, and over 300 second-class national cultural relics. The collection features bronzes from the Western Zhou Dynasty, celadon from the Six Dynasties, gold and silver wares from the Tang, Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties, and paintings and calligraphy from the Ming and Qing dynasties. These treasures embody the wisdom and civilization of the Chinese nation and showcase the historical development of the ancient city of Zhenjiang.
