The Yanshi Shang City Museum is China's only thematic historical museum dedicated to the research, exhibition, and promotion of the Xia and Shang dynasties. Located in the southwest corner of Yanshi City, 100 meters east of the Yanshi Shang City ruins, the museum is a replica of an ancient palace complex, with a central hall and interconnected corridors. Completed and officially opened to the public in 1987, it covers 16,000 square meters, with 5,500 square meters of floor space, 2,500 square meters of exhibition space, and 470 meters of exhibition space. It houses over 20,000 cultural relics. With a scientific management system, rich exhibits, innovative display formats, comprehensive service facilities, and a beautiful environment, the museum is worthy of the title "Pearl of Western Henan and a Treasure House of China."
The main exhibition in the museum is the "Xia and Shang Capital Civilization Exhibition", which mainly displays the cultural relics unearthed over the years from the two earliest capital sites discovered in my country so far - the Xia capital Yinxun (Yanshi Erlitou Cultural Site) and the Shang capital Xibo (Yanshi Shang City Site), so as to enable people to understand the nature, scale, city, cultural features of these two capitals and their status in Chinese history, the history of Chinese ancient capitals, the history of the development of Chinese ancient capitals and the history of Chinese culture, and further promote Chinese civilization.
