Tianping Mountain is located 8 kilometers west of Linzhou City, east of the main peak of Linlu Mountain in the Taihang Mountains. Named for its "precipitous peaks, flat against the sky," it is known as "the most scenic spot in the north." Records of travel and development of Tianping Mountain date back to the Three Kingdoms period. Han Qi, Prime Minister of the Song Dynasty, once praised it, saying, "Linlu Tianping Mountain is a most beautiful place in the world. Its grandeur and beauty surpass even the renowned mountains south of the Yangtze River." In 1999, the Chengjiao Township People's Government began a two-year preliminary development of the mountain before officially opening it to the public.
