Huanglong Temple, also known as Luye Zen Forest, is located within the Lushan Scenic Area, earning its name from its proximity to Huanglongtan. Nestled in the heart of Lushan Mountain, it faces Tianwang Peak in front, rests on Yuping Peak in the back, and borders the Cijing Pavilion to the west, overlooking the Daxi River below. The temple is surrounded by mountains , shrouded in verdant pines and firs, and shaded by bamboo groves . The scenery is breathtaking and tranquil, making it a truly remarkable spot .
Huanglong Temple, a palace-like complex nestled amidst a deep valley and lush bamboo forest, exudes a particularly solemn and majestic presence. Three Treasure Trees stand in front of the temple. Inside the rear hall, a stone called the Longyan Stone emits a drum-like sound when struck. If water drips from the stone, it predicts rain. Atop the mountain's rear hill stands the " Cijing Pavilion , " built to commemorate the gift of scriptures by Emperor Shenzong of the Ming Dynasty and the Empress Dowager. It remains well-preserved and serves as a valuable resource for studying Ming Dynasty stone architecture.
Another legend about Huanglong Temple tells of a long-ago story about Lü Dongbin, who, while cultivating in the Immortal Cave, believed his swordsmanship, learned from Han Zhongli, was supreme, leading him to despise Buddhism. One day, he visited the Luye Zen Monastery, hoping to test the power of the Huanglong Zen Master. Seizing the master's unpreparedness, he struck him with his flying sword. The result was bloodless, and the master escaped unharmed. Shocked, Lü Dongbin prostrated himself before him and apologized. This is the story of " Lü Dongbin Slaying the Huanglong with His Flying Sword , " a tale that has been passed down through Mount Lushan. It serves as a warning against arrogance and disrespect.
