Xinjiang Academy, one of the four ancient academies in Jiangxi Province, is located on Huangjin Mountain on the south bank of the Xinjiang River in Shangrao City. Founded in 1694, the 33rd year of the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, it was formerly known as Qujiang Academy.
In the 51st year of Emperor Kangxi's reign, it was expanded and renamed Zhongling Lecture Hall. In the 8th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1743), a building was built on the back hill to commemorate Zhu Xi, and the name was changed to Ziyang Academy. In the 46th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign, it was renamed Xinjiang Academy.
There are more than ten ancient buildings with ancient charm, including Zhonglingtai, Chunfeng Pavilion, Yitaxuan, Xixiu Pavilion, Rixin Book House, Yiletang, etc., with carved beams and painted rafters, simple shapes, hidden among the dense green trees, which looks particularly elegant and unique.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the "Shangrao Special District Revolutionary Martyrs Monument" and the Huang Dao Martyrs' Tomb were built on the former site of Yiletang in the northeast of the academy.
