Wanghai Tower was built in Dongtou 1,500 years ago during the Northern and Southern Dynasties by Yan Yanzhi, the prefect of Yongjia County, for panoramic sea views. In 825 AD, after being appointed prefect of Wenzhou, the Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Youxin traveled by boat to explore the tower and composed a poem commemorating his visit. Therefore, the reconstruction of the Wanghai Tower scenic area holds historical significance, connecting past and future. Upon completion, the Wanghai Tower tourist area will become Dongtou's most distinctive and valuable destination.
Dongtou is the only provincial key scenic spot in Wenzhou named after a county, with beautiful mountains and rivers and spring-like weather all year round.
Wenzhou has a mid-subtropical monsoon climate zone, with significant alternation between winter and summer monsoons, moderate temperatures, distinct four seasons, and abundant rainfall.
All seasons are suitable for visiting, but spring and autumn are the best.
