The former site of the Mengzi Customs is located in the southeast corner of Nanhu Lake in Mengzi County, Yunnan Province. It was the site of the Mengzi Customs and Taxation Office, established by the Qing government in 1889. Originally comprised of over 50 rooms, only one remains. Facing south and north, it features a raised-beam timber structure and a single-eaved hip roof. From the summer of 1938 to the spring of 1939, it served as classrooms for the College of Liberal Arts and Law of Southwest Associated University.
Mengzi Customs, the first official customs office in Yunnan, is located in Nanhu, Mengzi County, Yunnan. The existing buildings, constructed after Mengzi opened to trade during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, include five protected areas: the Mengzi Customs Taxation Office, the French Consulate, a garden, and the Coles & Co. Cottage, most of which are French-style. On May 25, 2006, the former site of Mengzi Customs was approved by the State Council as a cultural relic from the Qing to Republican period and listed in the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection sites.
