Introducing Wujiazhai Railway Bridge

The Wujiazhai Railway Bridge, also known as the Cinanxi River Railway Bridge, the Crossbowman Bridge, and the Herringbone Bridge, is a ribbed three-hinged arch steel beam bridge on the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. The bridge is located in the Sichahe Grand Canyon of Wujiazhai, Heping Township, Pingbian Miao Autonomous County, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China, between Boduqing Station and Luogu Station. The bridge is a landmark project of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway and an important physical material for studying the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway and the history of Chinese bridges. It has been included in the "History of Famous Bridges in the World".

To facilitate transportation and construction from France to Yunnan, China, the Wujiazhai Railway Bridge required that its components weigh no more than 140 kilograms. All the steel components were prefabricated in France and assembled and riveted together on site. Two 355-meter-long hoisting chains, weighing over 5,000 kilograms, were carried to the construction site on the shoulders of 200 workers over three days.

The Wujiazhai Railway Bridge is 71.7 meters long (including the section connecting to the mountain), 4.2 meters wide, and 102 meters high. The bridge deck is 102 meters above the valley floor. Constructed entirely of steel plates, channels, angle steel, and rivets, it was designated a Yunnan Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Site on November 13, 1998. On May 25, 2006, it was approved by the State Council for inclusion in the sixth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Sites.
