The Dieshuihe Waterfall Scenic Area is part of the Tengyue Tourism and Cultural Park. One kilometer from the county seat, it features the "Dragon Cave Curtain," one of Tengchong's twelve scenic spots. The 46-meter-high waterfall is the only urban volcanic dammed waterfall in China, and its cliffs are lined with intriguing columnar joints.
Dieshuihe Waterfall originates from the Daying River in northeastern Tengchong County, part of the Irrawaddy River system. Along its course, numerous streams converge, gradually increasing its flow. Surrounded by sheer cliffs, the Daying River cascades over 30 meters above the rocks, creating a thunderous, splashing waterfall that resembles a "flower scattering without a bow." Sunlight is said to often create a dazzling rainbow, a truly stunning sight.
The tropical monsoon climate combines the advantages of continental and maritime climates. Winter and spring are sunny and warm, while summer and autumn have a mix of sunny and rainy weather and are cool and pleasant. All four seasons are suitable for travel.
Atop the cliff where the waterfall cascades, huge rocks crouch, resembling tortoises and turtles, each in a different shape. A few dozen steps from the water's mouth, a stone bridge stretches across the river, known as the Taiji Bridge. This bridge is a monumental structure, and its craftsmanship holds a significant place in local architectural history. The bridge's piers are made of large rocks from the river, upon which a small, spherical stone pavilion is built. Its bucket-shaped roof is inscribed with a "Taiji diagram" and a stone plaque outside bears the inscription "Viewing the Waterfall." Hence, the pavilion's nickname: "Viewing the Waterfall Pavilion."
