Yunfeng Mountain is located in Ruidian Town, more than 50 kilometers northwest of Tengchong County. From a distance, it looks like a bamboo shoot piercing the sky. Because the peak is often shrouded in clouds and mist, it is named "Yunfeng Mountain." Yunfeng Mountain is famous for its "high mountains, deep valleys, steep cliffs and dangerous terrain."
Over a thousand steps of "three-fold cloud ladders" lead directly to the summit. The steepest of the 43 stone steps is nearly vertical and less than a foot wide. On either side is a dizzying abyss. Visitors must face the cliff face and climb up, holding onto iron chains.
Yunfeng Temple, built on a two-acre mountaintop, houses Ming Dynasty buildings such as the Jade Emperor Pavilion, Laojun Hall, and Guanyin Hall. Standing at Tianmen, one can gaze out into the distance at the snow-capped peaks of Gaoligong Mountain, surrounded by lush green hills and picturesque spring scenery. The scenery is extremely beautiful and magnificent.
The tropical monsoon climate combines the advantages of continental and maritime climates. Winter and spring are sunny and warm, while summer and autumn have a mix of sunny and rainy weather and are cool and pleasant. All four seasons are suitable for travel.
Yunfeng Mountain boasts the Jade Emperor Pavilion, the Three Pure Ones Pavilion, and the Lü Zu Temple at its summit; the Guandi Temple on the mountainside; and the Wanfu Temple and the Jieying Temple at its foot, all built during the Wanli and Chongzhen reigns of the Ming Dynasty. The Jade Emperor Pavilion, the Three Pure Ones Pavilion, and the Lü Zu Temple on the summit are particularly unique and dramatic, constructed atop the rocky summit with soaring eaves. Their unique design evokes the saying, "Heaven's work and man's work have combined to create the best of both worlds," earning them the nicknames "The Imperial Palace in the Sky" and "The Fairyland in the Sky." The "Three-fold Cloud Ladder," nestled between the cliffs, is considered one of Tengchong's twelve scenic spots.
