Xiaokong Mountain is located in Mazhan Township, over ten kilometers west of Tengchong County, to the right of Dakong Mountain. Tengchong's location at the convergence point of the Indian and Eurasian Plates creates a well-developed underground fault system and intense magma activity. While Xiaokong Mountain stands only about fifty meters tall, its crater is surprisingly large, exceeding 150 meters in diameter. The perfectly rounded cone, seemingly empty and hollow, holds the boundless mysteries of nature.
Of Tengchong's 99 volcanic cones, the most famous are the Big and Small Kong Mountains, located in Mazhan Township, 23 kilometers from the county seat. These mountains form the main scenic area of the Tengchong Volcanic Geological Park. Just a few hundred meters apart, they resemble twin sisters, each a truncated cone. Eruptions leave behind wide, pot-shaped craters on their summits.
Dakong Mountain is named after its towering peaks that pierce the sky. It is 2,072 meters above sea level, with a 100-meter-high volcanic cone, a 140-meter-diameter crater, and a depth of 40 meters. Xiaokong Mountain is named after its low, handsome appearance and lush greenery. It is 1,937 meters above sea level, with a relative height of 40 meters, a crater with a diameter of 150 meters and a depth of 47 meters.
The tropical monsoon climate combines the advantages of continental and maritime climates. Winter and spring are sunny and warm, while summer and autumn have a mix of sunny and rainy weather and are cool and pleasant. All four seasons are suitable for travel.
Xiaokong Mountain is one of the first choices for many tourists as it is very easy to get a glimpse of the original volcanic landscape.
