Wenshan Laojun Mountain is located in the southwestern corner of Wenshan County, Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It borders Hekou County of the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture to the west and Maguan County of Neimaguan Prefecture to the south. The mountain range stretches from southeast to northwest, comprising Erhegou, Didi, and Daqing, reaching a peak elevation of nearly 3,000 meters.
Laojun Mountain boasts vast forests and cooler temperatures atop the mountain; the climate is warmer on the mountainside; and at the foot, temperatures are higher and fertile fields stretch across the mountain. The unique climate of cold on the summit, cool on the mountainside, and hot at the foot is particularly evident here. The entire scenic area, ranging in altitude from 1,300 to 2,991 meters, features multi-layered plateau karst landforms that blend the central and western tropical and southern temperate zones. It is the only subtropical botanical treasure trove in southeastern Yunnan and is known as an oasis on the Tropic of Cancer. Its forest area alone exceeds 140,000 mu (approximately 140,000 mu).
The area is covered with dense jungles, towering ancient trees, intertwined roots, nine peaks, twenty-two ridges and twenty-one valleys connected side by side. The forest is vast. Climbing up Bozhu Mountain, the first peak in southeastern Yunnan, you can enjoy the magnificent sunrise and overlook the mountains and rivers of southern Xinjiang, as if you are in a fairyland of sea of clouds.
The subtropical monsoon climate offers mild winters and mild summers, with cool, dry weather and warm, rainy weather coexisting in the same seasons. The annual temperature difference is small, and the oceanic climate is more pronounced, with spring temperatures higher than autumn. It is suitable for travel in all four seasons.
The scenic area includes three major scenic spots: Laojun Mountain, Bozhu Mountain and Xihua Mountain, as well as Shangtiansheng Bridge, Xiatiansheng Bridge, Forest Park, Baishapo Hot Spring and other attractions.
