
The former site of Northeastern University is located on the east side of Beiling Street in Huanggu District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. Construction began in 1923 and was completed by 1930.
Northeast University is an institution of higher learning jointly founded by Fengtian and Heilongjiang provinces during Zhang Zuolin's rule of Northeast China. It is the largest comprehensive university established in Northeast China in the early 20th century, consisting of five colleges: liberal arts, law, science, engineering, and education.
After Zhang Xueliang became the president in 1928, he implemented coeducation, added colleges, hired professors, and vigorously developed sports.
A number of famous scholars such as Zhang Shizhao and Liang Sicheng taught here. The school has trained a group of outstanding revolutionary and construction talents for the country and occupies an important position in the history of modern education in China.
The former site of Northeastern University adopts a combination of Chinese and Western architectural styles. The main buildings have their own characteristics and are well preserved. It is an excellent modern architectural complex with high historical, artistic and scientific value.
