Huoshizhai Scenic Area is renowned for its Danxia landforms, representing the highest altitude, most typical, most concentrated, diverse, and largest Danxia landform complex discovered in my country to date. The park, integrating natural scenery, cultural attractions, and Hui ethnic customs, is the only area in Ningxia to be both a National Geopark and a National Forest Park. Covering an area of 98 square kilometers, Huoshizhai's natural wonders are its unique combination of unique mountains, grotesque rocks, lush trees, and fairy-like caves. The park boasts a rich flora and fauna, with lush vegetation including Quercus liaotungensis, Betula platyphylla, and Lilac. Buddhism, Taoism, and Islam have flourished in this area since ancient times. The grottoes, expanded and renovated throughout the ages, number over 10 sites and 120 caves, nestled amidst the breathtaking peaks of Yuntaishan, Shisishan, and Chanfo Temple.

It has a semi-arid climate with the characteristics of typical continental monsoon climate and desert climate, with late spring, early autumn, short hot summer, long cold winter, strong winds, abundant sand, drought and little rain.

Huoshizhai National Forest Park is located in Guyuan, Ningxia. The park is accessible by taxi or private car from Guyuan city center. Public transport options are limited, so renting a car or joining a guided tour is recommended.
The park is open year-round, but the best time to visit is during the spring and autumn months, when the weather is pleasant and the landscape is at its most vibrant. Summer can be crowded, and winters can be cold, so planning your visit around mild weather is ideal.
The entrance fee is approximately ¥30-50. Tickets can be purchased on-site at the park entrance. Currently, there are no online ticketing options available.
It is not necessary to book tickets in advance, except during the peak tourist seasons (e.g., National Holidays). It’s advisable to book a day or two ahead if you plan to visit during holidays.
Visitors typically need 2 to 4 hours to explore the park fully, depending on the activities you plan to engage in, such as hiking or bird watching. For a more relaxed visit, you might spend the whole day enjoying the natural surroundings.
The must-see areas include the main hiking trails, the forested zones, and the observation points that offer panoramic views of the park. The diverse plant life and serene landscapes make these areas especially popular for nature walks and photography.
Guided tours are available in Mandarin, offering detailed explanations of the park's flora, fauna, and geology. Audio guides are not currently offered, but joining a local guide is recommended for a more informative experience.
The best viewpoints are at the park’s higher points, where visitors can capture sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and forested valleys. Sunrise and sunset provide the best light for landscape photography.
Start with a visit to the main entrance and the information center, then take one of the main hiking trails leading through the forest. Pause at the observation points for scenic views, and finish with a relaxing picnic or rest at one of the designated areas.
Night visits and light shows are not available at Huoshizhai National Forest Park. The park is primarily a daytime attraction, ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and nature exploration.
The park can be crowded during weekends and holidays. The least crowded times are early mornings on weekdays, especially during off-peak seasons like early spring and late autumn.
The park provides basic facilities, including toilets, drinking water, and rest areas. There are no large restaurants, but you can find small kiosks offering snacks and drinks. It’s recommended to bring your own food and water for longer hikes.

There are several budget hotels and guesthouses in Guyuan, the closest city to the park. For more luxurious options, visitors can stay in Yinchuan, around 100 km away, where a wider selection of accommodations is available.
Nearby attractions include the Guyuan Longfeng Mountain and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Museum. These can easily be visited in a day trip along with Huoshizhai National Forest Park.
Small souvenir shops are available near the park entrance, selling local handicrafts, traditional Ningxia products, and eco-friendly souvenirs like wooden carvings and textiles.
After visiting, taxis or private cars are the best options for continuing your journey. Yinchuan offers better transportation options, including buses and trains for travel to other destinations in Ningxia.
