Zhenguo Temple, located in Haodong Village, 15 kilometers northeast of Pingyao County, Shanxi Province, was originally named Jingcheng Temple. It was renamed Zhenguo Temple during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and remains in use today. On December 3, 1997, Pingyao Ancient City, along with Zhenguo Temple and Shuanglin Temple, were inscribed on the World Heritage List.
Zhenguo Temple consists of two temples, the front and back, with a total area of 10,892 square meters. On its central axis, buildings such as the Heavenly King Hall, the Ten Thousand Buddha Hall, and the Three Buddha Building are located. The temple was first established during the Five Dynasties, dating back over a thousand years. The Ten Thousand Buddha Hall, with its unique appearance and structure, is a rare example of a surviving Five Dynasties wooden structure in China. Among existing wooden structures in my country, it is only later than the Nanchan and Foguang Temples on Mount Wutai.
The Five Dynasties was a period of division and war. Only a few ancient buildings have been preserved from that time in the country, and colored sculptures are even rarer. Apart from a small number of Five Dynasties colored sculptures in the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, the colored sculptures in the Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Zhenguo Temple are the only Five Dynasties works preserved in temples and monasteries in the country. Although the number is small, the historical era in which they are located is extremely important. They provide extremely valuable information for studying the history of the development of sculpture in my country and understanding the sculpture presentation process in the Tang and Song dynasties.

The entrance fee for Zhenguo Temple is approximately 20 CNY. Tickets can be purchased at the temple entrance. There is no information about online ticket purchases, so it is advised to buy tickets on-site when you arrive.
