The Yinyu River Grand Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in Central China and the core area of the Shennongjia Nature Reserve, stretches over 50 kilometers, with the deepest valley floor at 600 meters above sea level and the highest peak nearing 300 meters. The complex geology and rugged topography leave the vegetation in its pristine state. The canyon's high mountains and deep valleys, with dramatic elevation differences, create a distinct regional microclimate, with distinct seasonal variations from the peaks to the valley floor.
As the most intact pristine forest in Shennongjia, the canyon is lined with towering cliffs and ancient trees. Deep within the canyon, dense forests and vines abound, with waterfalls, quiet pools, and shrouded in mist. The valley floor, with its lowest point at 600 meters above sea level and its highest point approaching 3,000 meters, features a deep, V-shaped river valley, rich in waterfalls, rapids, rock pools, caves, and rocky beaches, home to giant salamanders. Along the coast lies primeval forest, where vast groves of Davidia involucrata, wild loquats, and golden monkey habitats have been discovered. The forest coverage rate exceeds 80%. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and unique, earning it the nickname "Green Labyrinth" and "Home of Giant Salamanders." Because this area is rarely visited, two groups of tourists reported sightings of "wild men" near Baishuipiao, the source of the Yinyu River, in 1999 and 2000. Generations of scientific research have confirmed that this is the most likely location for the "wild men."
The entire route through the Yinyu River Gorge follows the Yinyu River. The original path was mostly carved into the rocks, and some of the cliffs were connected by trees, all of which have varying degrees of decay and collapse. The route also crosses several rivers. Due to the Yinyu River Gorge's extreme depth, with rivers within rivers and gorges within gorges, it's difficult for the average person to see the entire canyon.
