
Tianyan Scenic Area, located at an altitude of 2,200 meters, is a pristine ecotourism area featuring unique trees, flowers, caves, and the unique customs and habits of the mountain people. It is a themed exploration destination focused on exploring the mysteries of nature. Named for the Yanzi Pass to the north and Tianmen Pass to the south, the Tianyan Ecotourism Area covers an area of 110 square kilometers, with a planned development area of 55.18 square kilometers. It is an ecotourism area currently under development in my country, an Asian biodiversity demonstration base, and a national ecotourism demonstration zone receiving significant state investment.
Tianyan Scenic Area is part of the Shennongjia Forestry District, renowned for its unique geology, rich biodiversity, and mysterious landscapes. It is historically significant as a natural reserve protecting rare plants, wildlife, and traditional forest ecosystems.
Located in Shennongjia, Hubei Province, China. Visitors can reach the park by bus or car from Yichang or Enshi. Taxis are available locally, and walking is required for most trails inside the scenic area.
Open year-round, generally 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Best time to visit is spring and autumn for mild weather, clear skies, and vibrant foliage.
Entrance fees are approximately 120–150 CNY (~18–22 USD). Tickets can be purchased online through official websites or at the park entrance.
Booking is recommended during peak season (May–October), ideally 3–7 days in advance to ensure availability.
Allow 4–6 hours to explore main trails and scenic spots. A full day is recommended for a relaxed visit and photography.
Guided tours are available in Chinese, with limited English-speaking guides. Audio guides may be available for select trails.
Start from the entrance, hike towards the main Tianyan viewpoint, continue along forest trails to Jinlong Waterfall, then return via scenic observation points.
Night visits are generally not permitted. Special tours may be offered during local festivals or for small groups with advance arrangement.
Peak season is May–October and weekends. Least crowded times are weekdays in spring or autumn.
Facilities include public toilets, rest areas, small snack stalls, and souvenir shops at the main entrance and key scenic spots.
Some trails are steep or uneven. Elderly and children should take care. Limited accessibility for wheelchair users, mainly at entrance areas.
Both cash (CNY) and mobile payments (WeChat Pay, Alipay) are commonly accepted at ticket counters and shops.
Vegetarian options are available; vegan and halal options are limited, usually requiring prior arrangements.
Car rentals or taxis are the easiest for traveling to nearby towns, Shennongjia Nature Reserve, or returning to Muyu Town for buses to Enshi or Yichang.
