Introducing Datong Door

Datong Gate, also known as the South Gate, is one of the four city gates (East, South, West, and North Gates) of Jianchangwei in the Ming Dynasty. After its completion in the 20th year of Hongwu (1387 AD), Datong Tower has experienced countless wars, floods, earthquakes and other disasters. It has been destroyed and rebuilt many times, and has experienced many vicissitudes of life.

In 1998, the CPC Xichang Municipal Committee and the Municipal People's Government resolutely decided to rebuild Datong Tower in response to public opinion. The rebuilt Datong Tower largely maintains the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty, restoring the Ming Dynasty brick and stone city walls, relocating units and residents illegally occupying the walls and towers, and restoring the inner city walls. The rebuilt Datong Tower, covering 2,800 square meters and standing 23 meters tall, has become a major historical and cultural landmark in Xichang.
