Benzilan, a township in Deqin County under the jurisdiction of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, means "beautiful sand dam" in Tibetan. Nestled on the west bank of the Jinsha River, Benzilan faces Derong County across the river. Straddling the Nu, Lancang, and Yangtze Rivers, which flow from north to south, Benzilan was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 as part of the "Yunnan Three Parallel Rivers Conservation Area."
