Where to stay

Prices ate soo high for B&Bs etc in Savannah. Tried Airbnb also. Arendt there any places to stay for atound 120$??? Who is paying so much? Any tips where to stay at a reasonable price more than welcome!!!

You’re totally right to feel frustrated — Savannah’s hotel / B&B rates *in the Historic District* often run much higher than $120/night. But there *are* a few solid options outside of the core downtown area (or just on its outskirts) where you might be able to find something closer to your budget, especially if you’re flexible with timing and book early.

Here are some suggestions & strategies for finding more reasonably-priced places:

  • Richmond Hill (just south of Savannah): - The Travelodge by Wyndham Savannah Area / Richmond Hill has been listed for very low rates (around $55/night) in some search engines. - Quality Inn Savannah / Richmond Hill (I-95) shows very budget-friendly rates on Expedia. - Best Western Plus Richmond Hill Inn is another mid-level option, consistently under many downtown B&B prices.
  • Pooler / I-95 Area: - There are several chain hotels in Pooler (near the I-95 corridor) that are more affordable (Booking.com and other sites show “cheap hotels in Pooler”). - These are a bit of a drive into the Historic District (depending on traffic), but if you’re OK commuting, they can be a good value.
  • Historic District / Near-Downtown Options: - According to Orbitz, the Holiday Inn Express Savannah – Historic District can sometimes swing just over $120 depending on date and availability. - On HotelsCombined, there are some “budget” hotels listed around $150-ish, though truly under $120 are rare; it’s heavily dependent on season, weekday vs. weekend, and how far ahead you book.
  • State Park Cabin Option (If You’re Open to Something Different): - Skidaway Island State Park near Savannah offers small “camper cabins” with amenities like A/C and kitchens. - These might stretch your “hotel” idea but are often more affordable (especially in off-peak seasons) and give you a peaceful, nature-y base near Savannah.

Why Prices Are So High (and Who Is Paying It):

  • High demand from tourists: Savannah is a very popular destination, so B&Bs and boutique hotels in the Historic District know they can charge premium rates.
  • Limited supply: Many historic inns / boutique hotels are small and have limited rooms, which pushes up costs during busy times.
  • Short-term rental boom: With Airbnbs being very popular, some places that might once have been hotel rooms are now being rented as vacation rentals at a premium.

Tips to Find Better Deals:

  • Try weeknights — staying Sunday–Thursday often yields lower rates than weekends.
  • Book very far in advance — the more you lock in early, the more likely you’ll catch good rates.
  • Use price-comparison tools (Kayak, HotelsCombined, Booking.com) + set price alerts.
  • Consider the I-95 / Pooler / Richmond Hill area for hotels — then drive into the Historic District to explore.
  • If you’re okay with something more “outside the box,” try state park cabins or inexpensive motels.

Bottom Line: Staying for around $120/night in or right next to downtown Savannah is very challenging, especially for traditional B&Bs or historic inns. But by looking slightly outside (to Richmond Hill or Pooler) or considering non-hotel options (state park cabins), you *can* find more budget-friendly lodging that gives you a base from which to explore Savannah without paying for luxury.
