Looking for some good southern comfort food in Atlanta

So I'm going to be in Atlanta for a couple weeks. Originally I had heard of Mary Mac's and was planning to go there to eat southern food, but I heard it temporarily closed because part of the roof collapsed and I don't think it will be open by the time I'll be there. What are good places to eat that for southern cuisine aren't too expensive (and maybe not too far out of the way from the downtown/midtown area)? And as a quick added question, are there any places to get some good pies (particularly looking for sweet potato as I didn't get a chance to try it last time I visited the south).
