Rooftop restaurant/bar allows under 21

I’m visiting with my daughter, and she’s a few months shy of 21, but she was hoping to grab snack/dinner (drink for me) at somewhere with a great view - rooftop, etc. Last night, we were turned away from a restaurant at about 10 pm because it was 21 and up only.

Any suggestions? We’re staying in Country Club Plaza, but if there’s an option by Uber that’s not too far, that’s great. If there’s a time consideration, we can go earlier in the evening. Thanks!

Finding rooftop or high-rise dining in Kansas City where under-21 guests are allowed can be tricky, as many rooftop bars enforce a strict 21+ policy, especially later in the evening. However, there are several options where you and your daughter can enjoy a meal with a view:

Within Country Club Plaza area:

  • Gram & Dun – Located on the Plaza, this rooftop lounge has an upscale menu. While alcohol is served, guests under 21 are generally allowed if dining, especially earlier in the evening. Call ahead to confirm policies and make a reservation.
  • The Fontaine – The hotel rooftop restaurant often allows minors with a dining adult. Reservations are recommended, and visiting earlier (like 5–7 pm) ensures a relaxed experience.

Other downtown or nearby options (Uber ride friendly):

  • Up on the Rooftop at the Muehlebach Tower – Has a mix of cocktails and food service. They usually allow guests under 21 for dining; check hours as some areas convert to bar-only late at night.
  • Manifesto Rooftop – Downtown rooftop that serves food and drinks. Policies may vary, so visiting earlier in the evening is best if you’re with a minor.

Tips for planning:

  • Arrive earlier in the evening, ideally before 8 pm, as rooftop bars often shift to a strict 21+ policy later at night.
  • Call ahead to confirm the under-21 policy and ask about reservations.
  • Check if the venue has a designated dining section separate from the bar area; this often allows minors to stay while parents enjoy drinks.

In summary, your best bet is to aim for an early dinner at a rooftop with a dining section and confirm policies in advance. Staying flexible with time and location will ensure both you and your daughter can enjoy the view and food without issues.
