Girls Weekend Ideas for Women 40+
Hi! I’m looking for some hotel and nightlife activities ideas for a girls weekend mid October. We are over 40 years old so not looking for a night of debauchery, but also don’t want to go play bingo. Love good music and good food! Also, would like at least one dinner/activity where we can dress up a little bit.
Thanks in advance!!
Kansas City has a fantastic mix of hotels, dining, and nightlife that can appeal to a group of women in their 40s looking for a fun, classy weekend without the typical "party scene." Here’s a detailed guide for your girls’ weekend:
Hotels: Staying in the downtown or Country Club Plaza area keeps you close to restaurants, bars, and music venues, and provides easy access for walking or short rideshares.
- 21c Museum Hotel Kansas City: Modern boutique hotel with contemporary art installations, central location, and a stylish bar for evening drinks.
- The Fontaine: Located in the Country Club Plaza, this hotel has chic decor, a rooftop pool, and is walking distance to great restaurants and shopping.
- The Westin Kansas City at Crown Center: Upscale hotel with comfortable rooms, convenient location near attractions, and easy access to downtown nightlife.
Dining & Dress-Up Options: Consider at least one evening for a special, dress-up dinner:
- Corvino Supper Club & Tasting Room: A trendy yet elegant spot offering small plates, a tasting menu, and live music in the evening.
- Gram & Dun: Modern American cuisine in an upscale environment, perfect for dressing up and enjoying a longer, leisurely dinner.
- The Monarch: Located in a historic hotel, offering elevated American cuisine with a chic atmosphere, ideal for a fancy night out.
Nightlife & Music: Kansas City is known for jazz, blues, and live music:
- The Green Lady Lounge: Iconic jazz bar with live performances and intimate atmosphere.
- Up-Down KC: Fun bar with games and live music for a more relaxed night without feeling too rowdy.
- Power & Light District: Cluster of bars and restaurants with live music options, perfect for hopping around for a few hours.
Other Activities: Balance your evenings out with some daytime experiences:
- Shopping and strolling along the Country Club Plaza, famous for Spanish architecture and boutique shops.
- Visiting the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts if there’s a mid-October show or concert during your stay.
- Enjoying a brunch or afternoon tea at locales like The Westport Café & Bar or The American Restaurant for a more relaxed, elegant vibe.
In summary, plan one dress-up dinner at a higher-end restaurant, enjoy live music in intimate lounges or jazz clubs, and explore some boutique shopping and sightseeing during the day. Downtown and the Plaza areas will give you the best combination of access and atmosphere for a fun, classy girls’ weekend in Kansas City.
