676 Restaurant watching Lights Parade

Hi.

My family and I are visiting Chicago for the first time next week and plan to watch the lights parade.

Has anyone been to the 676 Restaurant at the Omni hotel to watch the parade before as I’ve seen they are doing a buffet meal and great views?

We are weighing up whether to book this without the crowds or watch it on one the streets.

My son is 7 so we’re thinking more about him than us.

Many thanks

Hi there!

The 676 Restaurant at the Omni Hotel is a great option for watching the Lights Parade, especially if you’re looking to avoid the large crowds on the streets. It offers a buffet meal, and from the higher floors, you’ll have a fantastic view of the parade as it passes. Many families enjoy the experience for several reasons, particularly the convenience of being indoors, where you can stay warm, have a nice meal, and still enjoy the parade. It can definitely be a more relaxed option, especially with young children like your 7-year-old son, who may enjoy the warmth and comfort of being seated with a good meal while watching the lights from a safe, controlled environment.

Pros of the 676 Restaurant experience:

  • Great views: You’ll have a great vantage point for the parade from the higher floors.
  • Buffet meal: The buffet gives you a variety of options, which can be nice for kids (especially picky eaters).
  • Less stress: No need to worry about finding a spot on the street or dealing with the crowd.
  • Comfort: Staying indoors with a view is especially nice in Chicago’s cold weather in November.
  • Child-friendly: The more relaxed setting might be better suited for your son, as he can enjoy the parade without standing for long periods in the cold.

Cons to consider:

  • Cost: The buffet and viewing experience can be a bit pricier compared to just watching the parade from the streets.
  • Limited interaction: While you’ll get great views, you won’t be as close to the action as you would be on the streets.

If you prefer a more festive and close-up experience and your son would enjoy the excitement of being in the thick of it, then watching the parade from one of the streets could be a better option. The crowds can be large, but it’s a lively atmosphere, and you’ll have the chance to experience the parade from a more interactive perspective.

However, if you want to avoid the crowds and focus on making the evening easier for your son, the 676 Restaurant is an excellent choice for a more comfortable and less stressful experience. It’s a great way to enjoy the parade from a distance with the added benefit of a delicious meal in a warm environment.

Enjoy your trip to Chicago and have a great time with your family!
